Cognac Isle de Ré VSOP

Presentation of the cooperative “Les vignerons de l’île de Ré” :

During the history, the surface cultivated by the island sometimes exceeded 4 000 hectares. Today, it represents approximately 1 500, proof of a profound economic reconversion.

Furthermore, Île de Ré is contaminated by the Phylloxera in 1881. Only the sandy lands are spared. The Wine-producing Cooperative of Bois-Plage-en-Ré is created in 1950. This structure, symbol of the island solidarity, aims at federating the wine growers of the Island.

If the farming concerns only 2 % of the working population today, it plays however a leading role for the preservation of ancestral know-how and local quality products, as well as for the conservation of the landscapes of the island.

The annual average production of the Île de Ré is about 90 000 hectoliters of wine. Île de Ré being a part of the bounded region “Cognac”, 40 000 hectoliters are distilled, and 3 000 hectoliters is of use to the manufacturing of the Pineau.

Presentation of the vintage :

Colour: Mahogany.

Light nose of orange peel, vanilla and sandalwood,

Palate: ample, develops aromas of candied apricot and a great aromatic length  with propolis and blond tobacco.
