The legend of the Chevalier de la Croix Maron
“Legend has it that double distillation was invented by the Chevalier de la Croix Maron, Seigneur de Segonzac, a pious man who had a dream that Satan was trying to damn his soul. In his dream, he saw himself in the Evil One’s cauldron; but his faith was so deeply rooted in him that the Chevalier’s soul resisted the first “cooking”. The Evil One, to achieve his ends, was obliged to subject it to a second “cooking”. When he awoke, the Chevalier had the idea of extracting the soul from the eau-de-vie with a second distillation.
And so, in the Cognac region, this legend about the origin of the discovery of double distillation of Cognac eaux-de-vie has been perpetuated.” Distilled in the very heart of the region where Cognac has its roots, using the same century-old methods, CROIX MARON Cognacs are still today the heritage of this tradition.
A heritage handed down from generation to generation

CROIX MARON Cognacs are backed by a family estate that has been established for generations.
Since the origins of Cognac, the DAVIAUD family has been cultivating vines and making a living from their know-how and passion. These three elements have been passed down through 10 generations to the present day. Thanks to this continuity, dating back to 1718, Maison DAVIAUD has enabled each bottle of CROIX MARON Cognac to reveal an authenticity and typicity that have become rare today.
